BELAGAVI POLICE CRACK DOWN ON ‘DOLBY CULTURE’; STRICT BAN ON HIGH-DECIBEL SOUND SYSTEMS
Belagavi: In a decisive move aimed at restoring public order and curbing rising noise pollution, the Belagavi City Police has imposed a stringent ban on the use of DJ and Dolby sound systems across the city during festivals, processions and public gatherings.
The order, issued under the direction of Commissioner of Police Bhushan Borase and Deputy Commissioner of Police Narayan Baramani, underscores a zero-tolerance approach towards excessive noise levels that disturb civic life and threaten law and order.
“No Compromise on Public Peace”
Police Commissioner Borase delivered a strong message, asserting that the administration will not allow the “Dolby culture” to override citizens’ right to peace. He emphasised that loud, high-powered sound systems have increasingly become a source of distress, particularly for senior citizens, students, patients and residential communities.
He made it clear that any violation of the ban will invite strict legal action, including seizure of equipment and prosecution under relevant laws.
Clear Restrictions Laid Down
According to the official notification:
Use of DJ and Dolby sound systems is completely banned within city limits until further orders.
Sound systems exceeding 2000 watts capacity are strictly prohibited.
Permissible sound levels must not exceed 75 decibels even for approved events.
Total prohibition on loudspeakers between 10 PM and 6 AM has been enforced.
Only low-capacity systems may be allowed for limited purposes such as religious or cultural events, and that too under strict monitoring.
DCP Baramani Warns of Firm Enforcement:
DCP Narayan Baramani reinforced that field officers have been instructed to act decisively without hesitation. “There will be no exceptions or selective enforcement. Rules will be applied uniformly across all communities and events,” he indicated, stressing that maintaining law and order remains the top priority.
Public Cooperation Sought
The police have urged citizens and organisers to act responsibly and cooperate with authorities. In case of violations or disturbances, residents have been advised to immediately contact the emergency helpline 112.
A Shift Towards Civic Discipline
This crackdown signals a broader administrative push to strike a balance between celebration and civic responsibility. Authorities have made it clear that traditions cannot come at the cost of public health, safety and peace.
The message from the city’s top police leadership is unequivocal:
**Belagavi will celebrate—but within the bounds of law and discipline.**
